Happily Ever After...

I apologize for being absent over the past couple of days – it has been a fun-filled jam packed couple of weeks building up to the activities of the past few days. I had full intentions of writing and posting my weekend blogs, but, alas I got caught up in all the activity.

It was a wonderful weekend filled with the gathering of family and friends to celebrate the marriage of my niece and her fiancé. There were many pre-wedding activities, and some last minute additions throughout the weekend which were added as family gathered excitedly for the big event.

To get into the festive spirit the kids and teens planned outings to the movies and roller rink. There were family gatherings at one of the local lakes for walks and feeding the ducks. Then plans were made for last minute shopping trips and errand running for picking up the flowers, food, and wedding favors.

We were all nervously watching the over saturated skies that had been leaking their liquid sunshine all week. My niece smiled and said not to worry, everything was going to be fine for her beautiful outdoor wedding. The weatherman was not as quick to agree so a Plan B was quickly put into place. “Not to worry” my niece kept saying.

Anxious moments were spent agonizing over what to do when “Aunt Tilly” and “Uncle Max” and their ten kids all show up for the wedding…none of them RSVP’d. Or as estranged family members were reunited who don’t get along anymore. “Not to worry.”

After peeking at the fish in the lake, the little girls twirled about in their pretty new dresses and practiced dropping rose petals for their flower girl duties. Groomsmen and bridesmaids linked arms and strolled through the garden paths. Sound systems were tested for the garden ceremony and the reception. The menu was checked and double checked. Smiles were worn by young and old, short and tall as they practiced the wedding march through the scenic gardens…and a few tentative teasing drops of rehearsal rain.

With giddy optimism the anticipated day arrived…without a cloud in the sky. After a solid week of rain, the sun chose the perfect moment to shine beautifully on a lovely garden wedding. There were plenty of seats and food at the reception. Everyone got along swimmingly. No one tripped, no one forgot their vows, and no one forgot their toasts. It was a picture perfect day. And…speaking of pictures, here’s one of the beautiful bride and her handsome groom.

What does all this have to do with a fantasy blog? Well, sometimes life imitates art. As I learned from my niece and Cinderella, “Not to worry; a dream is a wish your heart makes”… Sounds like a fairy tale to me. Oh, if you were wondering about my niece and new nephew, it goes without saying, they are on their way to their own “happily ever after” tale. Just a thought…
