Magical Monday: The Old Ways of Magic (Part 1)

Once, in a day gone by, magic was as much a normal and everyday occurrence as breathing.

When the Old Ways prevailed as the norm for everyday living, there was no difficulty integrating materialism with spiritual insights and beliefs because people of that day clearly understood that each is present in the other. They understood that matter is only a form of solidified spirit.

By materialistic I mean concerned with material well-being, not controlled by material things. By continuing to believe this, we place ourselves within a tightly-bound area that prohibits us from manifesting, by magic, what we need in our lives.

In today’s modern world we have trouble accepting that magical law exists. Our minds have been bombarded by prejudiced opinions and the grandeur of technology until we have become programmed to believe a blend of the material and spiritual is impossible. We look to science for rational answers, and no longer believe in the magic of fantasy.

But, with a little imagination, a touch of superstition, a good healthy dose of inspiration, a pinch of pixie dust and believing in the possibility…anything can happen.

I think it's important for people of any age to be able to slip into a world where imgination takes over and "anything can happen." This occurs often when I'm reading a really good book.

Great thoughts. Looking at how science and technology have advanced in just the last few years, they seem like magic to me too, albeit of a different kind. I do think it's important to have one's eyes and ears open for those "magical" moments that sneak up on us throughout the day. It stops us from losing our wonder. :D

Interesting thoughts. Is it possible that in the ancient world, where things like science and technology didn’t really exist that some other force did, and it’s just been elbowed out of the way? Why not? Why isn’t that possible. All you have to do is believe to make it so, right Nancy?

Okay, this is really weird, I was actually on earlier and replied to your comments....hmmmmm...

Hi Jane! I totally agree - it is when the story transports you into its world that the true magic is working - I love a good book you can get lost in that way :)

Danyelle - you are so right technology we take for granted today was like a sci-fi imagineering only a few short years ago. We have made some incredible leaps in the technological world which is quite an adventure in its own right!

Galen - believing is a huge part of it. There were so many superstitions in the ancient days - ways to explain things that challenged all other means of explanation. What would those folks think of our world today?

Great thoughts, everyone. Thank you so much for stopping by.
